“There are some further procedures which need to take place but we are optimistic that these can be sorted out and then local people will really be able to celebrate. We will be working with local residents, community groups, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and other Sherwood Vision partners to ensure that this fantastic community facility can be enjoyed for generations to come.
“The land was given Town Green status last year which means that it cannot be built on. Despite this, it was conceivable that an unfriendly owner could have ignored local groups and made that enjoyment difficult to achieve and this is why we decided to act.”
Jonathan MacDonald, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council‘s director of regeneration and sustainability, said: “We are delighted that this wonderful amenity has been secured for the long term benefit of the local community.”
The purchase was also welcomed by Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark. “This is brilliant news for Sherwood,” said Mr Clark.
