At the consultation events in July and September, we presented some initial ideas for your comments. The proposals showed the possible location of houses or flats on this site and some space for allotments.
Using some of the space for allotments as well as housing was welcomed, as was tackling anti-social behaviour and improving security. However, there were some concerns that the short-cut through would be lost. We discussed at both events how this would be difficult to provide if the scheme was to meet good modern standards and planning requirements.
We have looked again at what is possible on the site and in October met with those people whose homes back onto it. We did this to ensure we understand how they get to their garages or the rear of their properties at the moment, and to discuss how the new homes and allotments could fit in. The discussion with residents focused on security and access as well as how the allotments would be managed and maintained. We also discussed the possibility of new parking spaces on the other side of Burslem Road as these may be required by the planners.
People did note that the current-short cut would be lost if the site is redeveloped and that it would mean a longer walk to the bus stop from Burslem Road. While some residents welcomed this as they are tired of the serious problems there are with people hanging around, others did ask why a route through wasn't possible. We explained that a pedestrian route could not be sufficiently overlooked and would cause a potential area for anti-social behaviour. The This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The consultation events have been very useful in helping us to develop these proposals. Town & Country will further develop the plans for exhibition to all residents in December. We will let you know the details of that event nearer the time. In the meantime if you have any comments or questions, please contact Brendan McGowan.
